~ Grand Day of Passata in Northcote ~
On Sunday 19th March we headed down early to All Nations Park in Northcote for the annual Melbourne Tomato Festival. A fine Melbourne day greeted the thousands that came down & it was wonderful to see young & old enjoy all that was on offer. The Home Make It team were doing hands on Passata making all day & nearly a thousand people cut, pulped & bottled Passata with us. We nearly got through 2 tonnes of nice red Roma tomatoes on the day & cannot wait until next year. Here a few of the moments from a wonderful day.
Adrienne with a pallet of Roma tomatoes.
One of our packed Passata sessions, 140 makers per session.
Many hands ( and our FLB electric machines ) made light work on the day.
We came, we chopped & we filled.
This one's not even going to make it home. Fresh is best !
~ Want a Passata Machine Bargain ? ~
We used 14 of our rugged Fabio Leonardi electric passata machines at the Festival & we are looking to sell these at a fantastic price. They are the 1 horse power version with SP5 attachment. These usually retail for $720 & have been used only on the day of the festival. When Salami season comes around you can easily put on our FLB mincer attachment and it's a mincer ! Call your local store to grab yourself one of these before they're all gone.
~ The Grapes Are In ~
Mother nature has given home wine makers some really good produce this year to work with, our in store wine testers are really optomistic about this years wine. With such produce it's important to treat it with respect & ensure it lives up to it's potential. Here are a few essential items in our Wine department that will make your wine all it can be...
To save hours destemming your grapes before crushing, have a look at our Baesso Crusher Destemmer. This Italian marvel will not only crush your grapes, but take the stems off as well.
From Baesso as well, our manual ratchet range of Italian wooden cage presses will extract every valuble litre out of your grapes. They are built to last & will be a major player at the family wine sessions for years to come.
Lastly, the Demijohn. These glass vessels come in every size from 5 litres up to 54, looking after your every storage & racking need.
Don't forget we offer free wine testing here at Home Make It. If you are unsure of a certain aroma or off flavour in your wine, bring a sample of your wine in & we'll do our best to point you in the right direction. We have a huge range of Yeast, Tannins, PH level adjusters, finings & much, much more in store to help you get the best final product.

In late February we sponsored the champion beer prize in Melbourne Brewers annual Beerfest competition. This year Brad Hurley picked up the title & here he is picking up his bounty yesterday. Last month Merri Mashers hosted it's IPA Competition, with IPA's flying in from every corner. Julian Robinson from the Merri Mashers walked away with the Home Make It choice award for his exceptional Red IPA. Home Make It & our good friends at Craft & Co wanted to offer a special prize, so we are going to brew Julian's Red IPA on the 1000 litre brewhouse at Craft & Co. in May. Look out for this dark, hoppy beast on tap in June. Well done Julian !
