~ Darebin Homemade Food & Wine Festival ~

If you share our passion for homemade food and wine, then get your diaries out! This is a not-to-be-missed week-long festival for the most discerning of foodies! The City of Darebin shines as it play host of the Darebin Homemade Food and Wine Festival between 9th-15th May, 2016 at venues across the region.

The main event, "Meet the Makers" will be held on Saturday 14th May, 2016 at Preston Shire Hall, Gower Street, Preston from 1pm - 4pm. This is an opportunity to meet the local homemade food and beverage makers, enjoy the beer and wine tastings, attend some cooking demonstrations and workshops and enjoy of rich culture of community, and multicultural culinary traditions. Be sure to come along and say hello to the Home Make It crew at our pop-up store.

Preserving Vegetables at home workshop; as part of The Darebin Homemade Food & Wine Festival

Learn how to preserve your own vegetables at home. The workshop covers everything you need to know to get started including ingredients, preparation, sanitising jars, preserving and more. Cost $60.00 Follow link to book your ticket.

Become your own winemaker! The session will cover wine basics & equipment, crushing & fermentation, pressing, malolatic fermentation & storage, racking, oak, finings and barrels, wine adjustments, faults and blending, filtration and bottling. Learn how to make mead from scratch and impress your family and friends! The workshop covers everything you need to know to get started, including recipes, equipment, additives and methods. Make. Talk. Drink. Beer. Merri Mashers Brew Club and Home Make It join up to take you through a step by step process of brewing your own beer at home. This informal event is the perfect introduction to home brewing over a glass or two of beer from the huge selection of Carwyn Cellars. Free, bookings not required.

The 2016 Victorian climate has not be ideal for quality grape growing, so it's more important than ever that you purchase your grapes from reputable grape growers and wineries, and also bring in samples of your juice / wine for regular analysis and expert advice. We provide free sample analysis at every stage of the wine making process including crushing, pressing, racking and bottling. And remember, we add additives, not chemicals. Life is too short to drink bad wine! So if you or your relative pride oneself on making homemade wine to share with loved ones, come in-store for regular sample analysis and enhancement.
