Here's something for everyone!

"If you don't want to find the nuts in your family, don't shake the tree".

- Linda Soloski

We are super excited to announce our first complimentary "Castagne and Caffe" day at our Reservoir and Clayton stores on Saturday 30th April, 2016 between 12.30pm and 2.30pm.  Come down and enjoy some freshly roasted castagne and a good old fashioned caffettiera caffe on the house! Hope to see you down there.

~ How to roast chestnuts ~

Chestnuts need to be rinsed and dried before roasting, and a small slit or cross must be made in the skin or they will burst. Most methods of roasting will take approximately 8-10 minutes. Once roasted, wrap the chestnuts in a tea towel to keep warm. Enjoy!

~ Getting started ~

Here's what you need to get you started. It's so simple.... all you need are the chestnuts and some basic equipment.

We highly recommend the purchase of a chestnut cutter that will gently slice the chestnut, without slicing your finger, as so many of you would have already experienced previously with a knife.

Our Italian made 'Napoli' electric pizza oven will roast your chestnuts to perfection in 8-10 minutes, not to mention cook a delicious pizza in 5 minutes, reaching temperatures up to 470 degrees. John from Alpine Chestnuts is a big fan of our electric pizza oven, using the pizza ovens to roast his chestnuts at the Farmer's Markets and festivals throughout Melbourne. In fact, to quote him, "the pizza oven is as good as any other roasting chestnut method."

Or for the more traditional method of chestnut roasting methods, you can use a chestnut roasting pan with wooden handle, and roast your chestnuts over a gas stove, or over a fire.

~ Cade's Brew News ~

Hi Brewers,

It's busy times in beer land as we head out of wine season & Melbourne gears up for Good Beer Week. In April we ran the BREWFC home brew competition which pitted brew club vs brew club to find the best Porter or Stout we could find. This week we headed on down to The Craft & Co to brew the winning beer on their 1000 litre commercial set up. After a day of sweat, steam & laughs the beer is safely now in the fermenter bubbling away. Come down to The Craft & Co on the 15th of May, when we will not only reveal the finished beer but also pair it with it's own matching menu. A true story of a beer going from Garage to Good Beer Week!

Also during Good Beer Week we have another two exciting events lined up. On Saturday the 21st of May we are teaming up with Nat & Callum from KAIJU! and Golden Axe cider to do a hands on cider making demo on the banks of the Yarra. It's sure to be a grand day ! And if your are free on the 14th of May , wander down to Carwyn Cellars where we will join up with the Merri Mashers brew club to do a street side home brew. Come down and see, smell & talk beer with us as we whip up a batch :)

We have just received another fresh batch of White Labs & Wyeast liquid yeasts come in from the USA, and these will hit the fridges in store next week. Keep an eye out on our social media & we will let you know when they arrive.

Don't forget we also have 15% off brew grains going at present on loose grains & our 25kg Viking sacks. It's too good a bargain not to take advantage of, so come & see us & get brewing!

Happy Brewing!
