On Sunday the Home Make It team made it's way to the iconic Lygon Street for the Carlton Italian Festa. Marquees were brought in, a pop up stall erected & our friends from The Craft & Co fired up the BBQ's to cook some home made pork & fennel sausages for the impending crowds. After Melbourne hit us with a winterlike morning, the weather settled down & the park started to fill up with families, music & the waft of coffee & food. We met many new & familiar faces & we can't wait until next year's Festa. See you there!
~ Melbourne Cup Pizza's & Burgers ~

On Tuesday the nation truly does stop to observe one of the biggest sports events worldwide, the Melbourne cup. We are especially lucky in Victoria, where the public holiday & long weekend make it perfect for catch up's, family BBQ's and DIY foodie projects. To celebrate this, come down to your local Home Make It store this Saturday the 29th & we will have some home made goodies for you. From 11am to 1pm we will be serving Pizza's at our Reservoir store & burgers at our Clayton store. Looking forward to seeing you.

~ New Kitchen Gadgets ~
We have just got some really exciting new products into our store that will make life in your kitchen that much easier ! First up are a couple of eye popping manual coffee grinders that look the goods & do the job.
As summer rolls around, there's no easier ( and tastier ) way to entertain & feed the masses in style than a simple yet decadent Paella. We now carry Spanish made polished steel Paella pans in 38cm & 42cm sizes.
If you've ever cursed while trying to produce julienne & ribbon spirals with your veges, then we have the gadget for you. The Spirelli from Gefu makes this job easy & quick.
~ Cade's Brew News ~
We now have our first Fresh Wort Kit in stock at Home Make It, an easy & time efficient way to ferment & enjoy an all grain beer at home. We have brewed this with all Australian hops & Viking Malt from Finland. The best thing is we have packaged these in 20 litre containers , so all you have to do is pour into your fermenter & add yeast. Simple & delicious!
We have just got a fresh batch of White Labs & Wyeast into the country & will see it into our stores any day now. We also have still got decent stocks of the amazing yeast/bacteria blends from The Yeast Bay in stores. Get in quick before they're gone!
Smoky Gose for Summer recipe
One of these days summer will be finally arrive & here is a simple little recipe for a Gose. Salty , sour and not too high in alcohol, a Gose is a perfect summer beer.
2.2kg Viking Wheat
1.3kg Viking Pilsner
900g Gladfield Sour Grapes
25g Tettnager hops
WLP029 Kolch yeast or Wyeast 1007 German Ale yeast
Method:
- Single infusion mash at 64c
- 20g of Tettnanger hops in the boil for 60 minutes
- 1/2 tablet of Whirlfloc into the boil with 10 mins left
- 30g of crushed coriander seeds into boil with 10 mins left
- 30g of SMALT smoked sea flakes into boil with 10 mins left
- Ferment with Wyeast 1007 German Ale or WLP029 Kolch yeast for best results
